FC Basel march on to the semi-finals of the Swiss Cup after defeating Lausanne on their home pitch at St. Jakob Park 5-2. The last time these two sides met in the competition was in the 2010 final, also at St. Jakob park where Basel were the victors by six goals to nil.
Lausanne were the first to concede in the 24th minute off of an own goal from Katz. Basel were 1-0 up at the halftime break. Just moments after the restart, Roux put the visiting side back in the game but Basel captain Marco Streller and Phillip Degan combined to make the scoreline 2-1 in the 50th minute. Alex Frei added to the goal in the 59th minute off of a penalty kick. Roux managed to get his side back into the match yet again in the 71st minute, scoring Lausanne's second of the match to make it 3-2 but the home side added two more decisive goals in the 89th and 91st minutes from Marco Streller and Fabian Frei.

Basel will play Winterthur in the semi final match and if they move on will face either Sion or Lucerne in the final in May.
