Grasshoppers Zurich Fall to a Strong FC Sion

blick.ch
Grasshoppers FC were dominated and defeated at home by a strong FC Sion. Sion were are not back into the positives with their point value after receiving a 22 point deduction from the SFA for fielding non-rostered players in a European fixture earlier this season. Sion sit at the second to last spot in the table ahead of Xamax, who face automatic relegation after corruption and bankruptcy rattled their campaign in December. Grasshoppers don't need to fear relegation spots since they are both taken, but will surely wish for higher league positioning than the seventh place spot they already hold out of ten Axpo Super League positions.

FC Basel took on FC Thun on a lovely evening in the lakeside city of Thun. The match turned out to be controversial after Thun fans, players and coaches felt that Basel midfielder Valentin Stocker should have been red carded for his foul on midfielder Jeremy Maniere and that the home side should have had a penalty kick after Benjamin Huggel had a questionable handball inside the Basel penalty box. The linesman signaled for a penalty, but his decision was overridden by the referee and Basel narrowly escaped an equalizer.

The Old Firm Derby

dailymail.co.uk
One of the biggest derbies in footballing history kicked off in the Ibrox stadium in Glasgow today as Rangers faced Celtic in the world renown Old Firm derby.
The match was box to box action from the starting whistle, and The Old Firm certainly lived up to it's reputation. The atmosphere was unlike any other, the commentators were barely audible over the rhythmic chanting of fans from both sides, clearly separated in blocks of blue and green. Three players and a manager saw red before the end of the match, but Celtic, down to nine men by the 56th minute, rallied from a 3-0 deficit to make it 3-2 before the end of the ninety minutes. However, Rangers were able to hold on and prolong the inevitable title win for Celtic.
