Thorsten Fink Calls and End to a Successful Career at Basel

FC Basel manager Thorsten Fink has called a halt to his career with the Swiss club and will move on to manage the German side Hamburg SV in the Bundesliga. The 14 time Swiss Champions won the Axpo Superleague three times under the German manager and won the double (Swiss Cup and the league) under Fink in the 2009/2010 season. Some of their best games in Champions League competition also came under Fink when they defeated AS Roma at home in the UEFA Champions League in 2010 and when the drew English giants Manchester United at Old Trafford in September. Players and staff alike have been expressing their emotion over Finks departure.
FC Basel captain Marco Streller calls Fink's final address to the team "the most emotional moment in my career" while Fink himself shed tears as he left the Basel training ground this afternoon. Finks successor will be a familiar face to Basel fans. Former assistant coach Heiko Vogel will be taking over for Fink and will be looking to capitalize on his success in the remainder of the 2011/2012 season. As an FC Basel fan, I will say that Thorsten Fink's presence at the touchline will be missed and the memories from the seasons he was with the teams will hold a big place in the hearts of fans worldwide.
